About me

The man behind the camera.

Hi there!

I’m Joel Hietala, a one-man advertising agency in Jyväskylä, Finland. I’ve worked in the industry part-time since I was in high school and all throughout my university studies, and full-time since finishing my Master of Science degree in summer 2023.

I love storytelling, which is why I chose to work in this area. I’m not much of a painter; rather, my canvas is the sensor of a camera, or the background of a website. Whether individuals or companies, I’m happy to work with every client’s important story.

In my spare time I enjoy hiking, composing and cooking – and of course traveling.

Frequently asked questions

As a one-man advertising agency, I am highly experienced in audiovisual production, websites and mobile apps. Therefore, I carry out a wide range of projects for both individuals and companies. You can find out more about my services via the sidebar.

And if you need something that’s not mentioned on the website, feel free to ask – if I can’t help with your project, I can probably at least point you in the right direction.

After high school, I completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Science and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Cognitive Science at the University of Jyväskylä. In addition, I have completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies in psychology. My Master’s Thesis was on multitasking.

My studies have equipped me with expertise in the interaction between people and technology, the human mind and the human experience. This gives me excellent skills in visual communication and marketing, as well as in implementing a range of digital services.

I approach my work with utmost diligence. That’s why I always ensure the quality of my work from several angles.

My extensive experience in the field is very important for the quality of my work. As I always strive to develop my skills, keep up to date with new techniques and learn from previous projects, the quality of my work is constantly improving.

The starting point for quality work is careful planning. By understanding your goals, your vision and your target audience, I can develop a clear plan for project implementation that meets your requirements.

The third method is quality production equipment. My cameras, microphones and other equipment are state-of-the-art and ensure that the project will look as good today as it will 40 years from now.

Finally, and most importantly, the feedback I receive from you and my other clients always helps me improve. I polish each project until you are happy with it. That’s how you get the quality finish for which I’m known.

Being in front of the camera can feel exciting, but there’s no need to be shy. A key part of my job is to keep shooting situations relaxed and comfortable. So don’t worry – the camera is there to capture you and your story authentically and in the best possible light, and there is no right or wrong way to be yourself. I will guide and support you throughout the process, and what’s more, especially in multi-camera productions, I can very easily cut out any bloopers or interruptions. That’s why the shooting situation is completely pressure-free.

To subscribe to the service, you can simply go to my contact page and either send me a message directly or book an appointment. We can then work together by email or phone to agree on what solution would work best for you and, depending on the project, book an appointment to implement it.

For individuals, the payment method is usually an invoice (bank transfer). Alternatively, you can pay by MobilePay, for example.

I reserve the right to invoice part of the project in advance. We can of course agree on the details together.

Businesses usually pay by e-invoice or e-mail invoice.

The delivery time of projects is often a question that arises beforehand. However, as a one-man advertising agency, I can usually offer a very flexible service and work within tight deadlines.

It usually takes a week or two to complete a website – depending, of course, on the complexity, requirements and supply of materials.

The time taken to edit a video depends on its length and complexity. However, in most cases, videos are ready for preview after shooting in 2-5 working days. After that, you should allocate a few more days for any changes or corrections you may wish to request.

However, as stated, I can generally adapt to any schedule. So please feel free to contact me, whether it is urgent or not!

Absolutely! My services are excellent gifts for all those who want to remember.

Privacy comes first

Privacy is a human right. My clients rely on me when they allow me to film them and their loved ones. I do everything I can to be worthy of this trust, and that is why I never share private projects in my portfolio or with third parties without your explicit request or permission.

Confidentiality is important to me with individuals, businesses and content providers alike. I understand that certain projects require special discretion, and I guarantee a professional and confidential service for all projects, with your privacy as a priority.

A greener choice

I believe in a more sustainable future, and I am committed to delivering more environmentally friendly services.

At least one tree will be planted for every new project. My websites are hosted on servers powered entirely by renewable energy sources. I also pay particular attention to the energy efficiency and recycling of my equipment.

For us all

Accessibility is not just a feature, it is a requirement. Technology and media should be available to all people. That’s why I design websites and mobile apps with accessibility recommendations in mind; subtitles are available for the videos I produce; and different users are taken into account at all stages of the project.

My Master’s Degree in Cognitive Science gave me an excellent understanding in this topic, and I regularly keep up to date with technological developments, including in the field of accessibility.
